 My
Career Builder in Life in Review
On reflection of what I consider as
my personal career builder in life, I thankfully testify as follows:
"I was not lucky enough to go to
College or University in my young days. I could not get a bursary or
financial aid for full-time studies and my parents also could not
support me.
I did the next best thing and got a
job as a learner electrical artisan and obtained full artisanship as
a qualified Electrician four years later. I married a year later and
three kids were borne over a period of 50 months.
Life started to get financially tight
for me. I was the only breadwinner in the family, while my wife was
fully occupied as a housewife and mother for our three kids growing
up. I started looking anxiously for opportunities to improve my
financial position. Then I came across Career Builders Club on the
web and read that I can study management and leadership skills,
without the necessity of a College or University qualification. I
was immediately interested, as I wanted to move up in the
management hierarchy at work. I enrolled as a Pro Member and
enthusiastically slurped up career builder after career builder and
applied everything I learned into my personal job at work. Man, was
I surprised to be appointed Foreman in the Electrical Department
after a mere twelve months. My superiors soon started to notice how
the performance and motivation of my two sections went through the
roof.
The short of the story is that I was
appointed General Maintenance Foreman over 6 technical workshops,
each with a foreman reporting to me, after another nine months.
Financially things started to
brighten up with the previous promotion increases in my salary. I
was now so motivated and used to self-study, that I enrolled for the
Electrical Engineering Ticket. Another 4 years went by and I was
appointed as a fully qualified Electrical Engineer. All the while,
through the years, I kept on improving my management and leadership

After another year went by, I was
appointed Chief Engineer, overseeing 5 other Engineers. Two years
later I became General Manager of a electrical components production
plant in another city. The magic of this was that I did not even
apply for the position, but was offered it on recommendations from
my superiors to their networking buddies in other industries.
